After a first chapter unveiled during Matter & Shape 2026, Birkenstock 1774 continued its Funny City project with a second installation at its Studio Rue Saint-Honoré. Conceived in collaboration with the artist Serban Ionescu, this sculptural intervention was part of the fair’s Hors les Murs program and offered a more intimate interpretation of the dialogue between art, design and architecture.
Funny City explored playfulness with scale, asymmetry and form through several sculptures installed within a Haussmannian interior. The installation also accompanied the launch of the 1774 Romanticismo collection and celebrated the 50th anniversary of two of the brand’s iconic silhouettes, the Milano and the Boston, both first released in 1976.
At Birkenstock 1774’s Paris studio, Serban Ionescu presented six works designed in direct dialogue with the space, interacting with architectural axes, windows, mirrors, and threshold effects. Guests were invited to explore a curated selection of the brand’s archives and a reading library curated by Ephemera.
